Routine for Mail and Bill Paying
Saturday, July 28th, 2007Here are some ideas to help you get organized with paying your monthly bills.1. Set up a mail routine. When you check the mail, immediately put all of the bills in a special location where you ONLY keep the bills to be paid, with no other mail. This could be a drawer, file or small box. It works well if the storage location for the bills is convenient to where you come in the house after checking the mail.
DO NOT allow yourself to put the mail in a pile on the counter when you walk in. As a minimum, immediately pull out the bills and put them in their special place. You can also quickly go through the rest of the mail and throw away any junk mail and then put any mail left to read or take other action on in a separate place or file.
2. Set up a bill paying area.
In this area, keep checkbook, calculator, stamps, envelopes, pens and anything else you need for bill paying. If you usually pay them at the dining room table, then you could keep all of these supplies in a small box and bring them out with the bills when it is time to pay them.
Want fewer supplies to keep track of? Simplify your bill paying by using your bank’s automated system for online bill payment. (more…)
